Akalki Hotel & Centro Holístico

We came here for our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect! So peaceful and magical! The staff is wonderful, so thoughtful and kind! We will miss Jonser, Dana, and all of the Akalki staff - we wish we could thank everyone by name! We especially enjoyed the trip on the boat with Captain Jan! The food was refreshing, fresh juices, fun cocktails, and simple but delicious dishes made with fresh, whole ingredients! The espresso drinks to order at the restaurant and hot tea brought to the cabana each morning were especially nice to wake up to! Bacalar was a short distance away by car or taxi, and we enjoyed the many great restaurants, evening music and shopping around the central square, especially the many artisans in the pop-up night market at the park! As marine scientists, we especially appreciated the harmonious relationship between Akalki and its environment, a much gentler footprint than a boutique hotel. We got to observe so much wildlife as we wandered the grounds, including a tiny crocodile and so many bird species! We especially enjoyed being able to observe the diverse fish species from the deck at the restaurant or our private deck over the water. Stepping out of the room and into the lagoon just after sunrise is something we will never forget!

This is the most peaceful, relaxing place I've ever experienced. The lagoon water is magical. I just wanted to sit in it all the time. The staff is amazing. There are so many interesting, one of a kind structures on the property. You MUST see the temple! It's breathtaking. I participated in a Temazcal ceremony. I actually had no intention of doing it, but was talked into it. I am not exaggerating when I say it was life changing! It took us 2 days to get there from where we live because there aren't near as many flight choices as there used to be, but IT WAS WORTH IT.

The bungalows with your own lagoon are absolutely beautiful It would’ve been nicer if this place was only for adults And for the price you pay it would be nice to get included a better breakfast, more than just a glass of juice or fruit with a basket of bread.

Staff is incredibly kind & the place is thoughtful in keeping the lagoon’s health and preservation in tact. They serve you fresh fruit, coffee & tea at breakfast, and it offers extra touches such as healthy tea and biscuits delivered and cute setup on the bed after service. There is no AC when staying in the cabanas on the water, so be prepared for the humidity and warm temps. They do offer a fan over the bed underneath the bed net & an additional fan but without a breeze the water is your only form of cooling relief. The grounds are beautiful with tons of vegetation, a temple tour, SUP- stand up paddle boards, boating/sailing options, hammocks to relax, yoga and meditation, even special events such as buffet brunch and ceremonial activities. We loved our SUP guide, Ector, he was especially kind, knowledgeable of the area, and even had fresh fruits and coffee/tea for our outing on the water for sunrise SUP. He also took tons of photos and videos for us with our GoPro. Be prepared for pricing to be a bit higher for food, beverages, and some of the outings.

Absolutely one of the most stunning spaces I’ve ever been to, charming and wild at the same time. They have blended just the right amount of everything together in nature. So relaxing, wonderful food & an incredibly helpful staff.

This hotel was the most serene and tranquil experience ever had. It felt like we had the hotel all to ourselves as there are only 17 rooms, and our bungalow was over the water with direct access to the lagoon from our back door. This was a dream, we will definitely plan to be back!

Incredibly tranquil, beautiful and well kept place. You can see a lot of thoughtful care has gone into creating and maintaining Alkalki on the shores of beautiful Bacalar lagoon. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Honestly it is difficult to describe in words what a nice time my mother and I had there. The electric boat tour to see some of the biggest and incredibly rare and fragile fresh water stromatolites in the world brought me to tears. Make sure you educate yourself on them before going to Bacalar. We also had an incredible guided tour of the temple they are building…an amazing organic work of art in progress. My mother went to the wonderful morning yoga and meditation with their healer while I swam right from our room and watched the birds and sunrise. This place is very special. Will definitely be returning and feel blessed to have been able to spend time at Alkalki.

From when we entered thru the gates it was like being in Shangri-La. The staff was courteous, the location outstanding & the grounds were beautifully manicured. All the areas of the resort were exceptionally clean. We decided to eat at the Akalki restaurant. The service, quality & price did not disappoint. I would highly recommend a bungalow on the lagoon.
