Namun, saya berubah fikiran setelah memerhatikan betapa mesranya pelayan-pelayan itu, walaupun mereka sangat sibuk. Malangnya, satu pertemuan yang mengecewakan dengan kakitangan perkhidmatan bilik membuatkan saya meninggalkan ulasan negatif. Apabila saya menghubungi perkhidmatan bilik dan meminta bantuan untuk membekukan pek ais saya supaya saya boleh menyimpan susu ibu saya di dalam kereta apabila saya dalam perjalanan pulang ke rumah, kakitangan itu memberitahu saya bahawa terdapat penyejuk di dalam bilik. Saya menjelaskan bahawa penyejuk tidak dapat membekukan pek ais, jadi saya memerlukan bantuan hotel. Terkejut saya, kakitangan itu meminta saya mengemas pek ais dengan baik dan membawanya ke kaunter penerimaan tetamu. Waktu itu sudah pukul 10:30 malam, dan saya memakai baju tidur bersama bayi saya yang berusia 7 bulan. Saya terpaksa membangunkannya dan membawa pek ais sehingga ke kaunter penerimaan tetamu. Selain pengalaman negatif ini, saya juga terpaksa beratur untuk sarapan pagi bersama bayi saya pada kedua-dua hari. Saya fikir mereka perlu membuka dewan jika tidak ada meja yang mencukupi untuk tetamu, tetapi pelayan wanita masih ramah dan mesra, walaupun mereka tidak mempunyai kerusi bayi untuk 10 minit pertama. Walaupun begitu, saya tidak pernah terfikir untuk meninggalkan ulasan yang buruk. Saya kecewa dan sedih apabila saya terpaksa berjalan sepanjang jalan ke penerimaan tetamu pada waktu malam dengan bayi, dan saya tidak fikir tetamu perlu berbuat demikian.

Kakitangan yang sangat terlatih dan sangat membantu daripada pengawal keselamatan kepada juruwang di kafe The Terrace walaupun kami bukan ahli kelab golf. Kami pasti akan datang lagi dan mengesyorkan tempat ini kepada orang lain. Anda tahu mereka benar-benar memberi perhatian kepada butiran apabila unit itu lengkap dengan bantal tambahan, peralatan lengkap dan juga sabun pencuci pinggan. Review: Tower Regency Hotel Good: The hotel was quite central and near Ipoh Parade (a large shopping mall). There were plenty of F&B options within walking distance too. The hotel receptionist suggested that we checked out the food trucks at Dataran Ipoh (about 5-8 min walk from our hotel). The food trucks serve local cuisine and has a nice street-food vibe and ambience. The buffet breakfast was not much, but it had some delicious food. Can be improved: There was no hotel porter to help with our luggage when we arrived. Apparently the hotel’s one and only porter had stepped out for a break. We had to carry our luggage from the car to the hotel lobby and then to our rooms ourselves. There’s no valet to park our car either. It’s an old hotel which may have its charms (reminds me of the 70s Malay movies I’ve watched), but it’s certainly due for a makeover. There were stains on the carpet and the walls needed a fresh coat of paint. The spray hose in our toilet leaked when we turned the tap on. We didn’t realise it at first, and it wet the floor. There was no iron and ironing board in our room, but there was one in the hall for common use. However, the iron’s markings were not visible anymore. We almost burnt our scarves while ironing because it was too hot. The bathroom towels were too thin on day 1, but they were thicker on the next day. There were no face towels or bedroom slippers either.

There were stains on the carpet and the walls needed a fresh coat of paint. The spray hose in our toilet leaked when we turned the tap on. We didn’t realise it at first, and it wet the floor. There was no iron and ironing board in our room, but there was one in the hall for common use. However, the iron’s markings were not visible anymore. We almost burnt our scarves while ironing because it was too hot. The bathroom towels were too thin on day 1, but they were thicker on the next day. There were no face towels or bedroom slippers either.

Why glorify these dark alleys which look like the neighborhood where Jack the Ripper lurk for his next victim? The ”hotel” is supposed to be ”designer hotel”. It's a prison. Period. Full of hazardous corners and dangerous pits. Pool was so heavily chlorinated that the water stung. Door handle came off, stupid latch on the outside of the room, multiple key card systems that could potentially kill if a fire breaks. I almost got stuck in the common bathroom because the latch refused to budge when I wanted to get out. Sink at the common area was greasy. The reception was almost impossible to find. Do not take your elderly family members or small children to this hotel. I booked it coz I had no choice at such a short notice. Not worth the money either. Seriously, MPI should re-inspect that place and take back the accommodation license. Look at the ”barrier” from the rooftop pool to the ground below. No banister. It's lower than my knee if I stand next to it. One wrong move, you'd plummet down. Steps made out of metal grating. No safety yellow stickers to differentiate the levels. Totally NOT safe! Never again!

Kami mendapat bilik keluarga dengan katil double queen, agak lapang terutamanya bilik mandinya luas. Satu-satunya tolak ialah lorong tingkat pertama gelap tetapi kami berjaya dengan lampu suluh telefon. Saya pasti akan memilih untuk tinggal di sini lagi.

Zum Zimmer: Wir haben das Hotel noch am Tag der Ankunft gewechselt und gar nicht dort geschlafen, die „Matratze“ ist steinhart, das Bett ist sehr klein für zwei Personen, das Moskitonetz ist trotzdem zu klein, um es zu schließen, man hört aus dem Nachbarzimmer jedes einzelne Geräusch und Wort, im Bad gab es Käfer. Zur Buchung: Die Buchung über die Hotelwebsite funktionierte nicht, weil die Zahlung nicht abgeschlossen werden konnte. Wir haben daraufhin eine Mail geschickt und mussten dann den Betrag vorab überweisen, wobei eine Transaktion von einem Schweizer auf ein malaysisches Konto natürlich ein paar Tage dauert. (War natürlich unser Fehler, uns überhaupt darauf einzulassen.) Obwohl der Betrag auf unserem Konto verbucht und die Transaktion abgeschlossen war, hat das Hotel bis zum Schluss behauptet, die Zahlung sei bei ihnen nicht eingegangen und wir mussten dann vor Ort nochmals bar bezahlen. Die Überweisung wollten sie zurückerstatten, sobald sie bei ihnen auf dem Konto eintrifft. Der Kontakt vor Ort an der nur sehr sporadisch besetzten Rezeption lief über einen jungen Mitarbeiter, der nur schlecht Englisch sprach, der Mailverkehr mit dem Geschäftsführer o.Ä. Antwort auf Mails kam dann aber auch nur noch sporadisch. Das Geld wurde uns bislang nicht zurücküberwiesen.

Paloh, or palung, also means a depression in the ground that holds water, or a fishing hole to catch fish. It is believed that Paloh was also a boat dock in the past. Some other views hold that the Hakka were the founders of Paloh, and only later came the Cantonese. According to this theory, the origin of the name is a symbolic reference to the dams that were constructed along the Kinta River for fishing purposes. These dams were referred to as “Pa-Lo” in the Cantonese dialect and eventually the area became known as Paloh. Paloh today has of course become the heart of the city of Ipoh. In this old part of the city pre-war Shop Houses line the streets, with a predominantly Chinese character. “Sarang” is a malay word meaning nest, hence “Sarang Paloh” means “The Nest in Paloh”, evoking the image of the hotel as a place of rest for the weary traveller. Located on Jalan Sultan Iskandar (formerly Hugh Low Street), Sarang Paloh is located in pre-war two storey shop houses that originally were the premises of a Goldsmith and a Bank more than 90 years ago. The façade of one of the buildings still has the name of the Goldsmiths on its façade in English, Chinese and Malay (jawi script), with the stately bank building still has the name of Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited on its front. Across the road, Sarang Paloh has another shophouse of which the ground floor has been converted into a carpark. If you have a car, this is where you would park. Parking is complimentary, but you must exercise caution, turning right into the shophouse entrance as Jalan Sultan Iskandar is a pretty high traffic road, and the building inside is quite narrow, with the cars having to be parked bumper to bumper, in two rows. Exit is out through the back of the shophouse into a back lane. Do bear in mind that if the shophouse is full of cars, you may get boxed in by other parked cars and not able to exit! Fortunately this did not happen to us while we stayed here. Getting to the hotel means having to cross the busy road again on foot, with your luggage, from the car to the hotel. The main reception area was in the former Goldsmith’s building, and the entire front of the shop house is dedicated to the reception. To get in the front door, you will need your access card, or the staff inside will have to let you in, if you have yet to check in. The central part of shop house is a courtyard with a spiral staircase going upstairs to the 2nd floor, and in the back is a sort of pantry area with dining table. Staircase at the back also leads upwards. We had booked a room at the back of the shophouse on the 2nd floor, as we were aware of reviews that rooms in front may have some street noise.
